Agricola is finally here!

The new #1 board game is finally here. Does it deserve top spot?
Plus lots of new D&D products and a new Set challenge!

Monday Aug 25, 2008

Agricola from Z-Man Games
In Agricola (Latin for "farmer"), you're a farmer in a wooden shack with your spouse and little else. On a turn, you get to take only two actions, one for you and one for the spouse, from all the possibilities you'll find on a farm: collecting clay, wood or stone; building fences; and so on. You might think about having kids in order to get more work accomplished, but first you need to expand your house. And what are you going to feed all the little rugrats? [Z-Man Games]
Also, in case you haven't been paying attention, Agricola is the new #1 game on BoardGameGeek.com! It has surpassed Puerto Rico after four years of being number one! Oh yeah, it's pronounced 'a-grick-ola' with the emphasis on the 'grick'!

Dungeon Masters Screen from Wizards of the Coast
This four-panel cardstock screen features new full-color artwork and allows Dungeon Masters to keep their campaign notes and die rolls private, without blocking their view of the game table.
Easy-to-reference rules and tables appear on the inside panels of the screen; these are designed for the Dungeon Master’s eyes only and comply with the rules in the 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game core rulebooks. [Wizards of the Coast]

Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide from Wizards of the Coast
This product includes everything a Dungeon Master needs to run a D&D campaign in the Forgotten Realms setting, as well as elements that DMs can incorporate into their own D&D campaigns. The book provides background information on the lands of Faerûn, a fully detailed town in which to start a campaign, adventure seeds, new monsters, ready-to-play nonplayer characters, and a full-color poster map of Faerûn. [Wizards of the Coast]

H3 - Pyramid of Shadows from Wizards of the Coast
H3 - Pyramid of Shadows is a D&D adventure designed for heroic tier characters of levels 7–10. It can be played as a stand-alone adventure or as the final part of a three-part series. This product includes an adventure booklet for the Dungeon Master, a campaign guide with player handouts, and a full-color poster map, all contained in a handy folder. [Wizards of the Coast]

Set Cubed from Set Enterprises
Set Cubed is a curious game of clever connections, challenging a player's ability to identify SETs between the dice in their hand and those already on the board. Players can play up to 3 dice per turn making as many SETs as possible. Create SETs up, down and across the board, the more SETs you create, the higher your score. As the number of dice on the board increases so do the possible SET combinations. Rack up points by using bonus squares! Roll a WILD die and unleash the possible number of SETs that can be made during your turn! How many SETs can you make?! [Set Enterprises]

Bored? Game Day! This Saturday, August 2nd!

GAMES, GAMEs, GAMes, GAmes, Games, games...and more games.

Wednesday Jul 30, 2008

Hi everyone,
It seems that this will be the last Bored? Game Day! of the summer...where has the summer gone? The next B?GD! won't be until October(gasp!), so you better make this a good one! We will have more chairs(YAY!) and we are going to rearrange the space a little to make it a bit more comfortable for everyone. But, just in case, you might want to bring a chair. ;)

Now on to a couple of new game releases:

Eventide from Wizards of the Coast
Eventide is the second set in the Shadowmoor block. It is a 180 card expansion with randomly inserted premium cards. Just as the Shadowmoor set turned the plane of Lorwyn on its ear, the Eventide set distorts everything Shadowmoor established. Enemy colors combine and create new strangeness on hybrid cards. Wither, persist, and the untap symbol are back, and are joined by two new mechanics: chroma and retrace. [WotC]

The Hanging Gardens from Rio Grande Games
The hanging gardens were one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world, as all history courses teach. But, did they actually exist? Nothing remains of their reported splendor, which was built for the eyes of Amyitis.
Without an exact reference to follow, the 2-4 players will re-establish the hanging gardens according to their own tastes.

The task of finding beautiful and original gifts now falls upon his councilors -- you! Send your servants tot he four corners of Egypt, from Gizeh to abou Simbel and gather up the most impressive objects the realm has to offer. Whew! Now that the holidays are over...

The holiday season has ended and there is still more stuff coming!

Friday Jan 04, 2008

Hi everyone! I hope that you all had a happy holiday season, celebrating Christmahanukwanzakah or Festivus and eating too much food! I know that we all did here!

Before I forget(again), I want to thank everyone who showed up for the December 8th Bored? Game Day! It was, once again, the largest B?GD! that we have ever had! I hope that you all had as much fun as we did!
And on the subject of Bored? Game Day!, the next event will be Saturday, February 2nd. Mark your calendar, call off work, skip homework, neglect your better half(or better yet, bring'em), ignore the cold weather and be there! There are already new releases from Rio Grande to be played, the new Magic: The Gathering set will be out and there should be restocks of games that haven't seen the light of day for ages! Fun or Die!

Speaking of new releases(the segues never end!) Here is a rundown of some of the latest releases, in this case, four new games from Rio Grande!

Oregon from Rio Grande Games.
The year is 1846. Gunslingers, lawmen, pioneers and whole families left their homes in the east and midwest to try their luck in the West. They loaded their covered wagons with all they could and headed west across steppes, deserts, and mountains.
The players have already reached Oregon and gaze upon the rich farmland below and the potential gold and coal reserves of the mountains. They build ports on the lakes and rivers, churches, warehouses, post offices, and train stations on the plains. And, of course, they must farm the rich land to grow the food necessary for the area to grow and thrive. To win, a player must choose the right times to farm and the right times to build, for planning is necessary, even here in the untamed wilderness of Oregon! [Rio Grande]

Darjeeling from Rio Grande Games.
In 1835, the British East India Company leased the region around the location of the modern-day city of Darjeeling. The British had more than a strategically placed trading post in mind – because of the favourable climate, they wanted to build a sanitorium there as well!
That climate, which was to bring relief to sanitorium visitors, can be thanked for one of the most sought after tea varieties in the world: Darjeeling. While searching for the best teas, the players cross the entire region and assemble the largest shipments possible for each individual tea variety. The latest teas to be loaded are always worth more victory points than the older ones, as tea connoisseurs naturally prefer the freshest cargo. But preferences for individual tea varieties also bring the players victory points while loading shipments. [Rio Grande]

Mü & Lots More from Rio Grande Games.
This collection contains four unusually great card games by four great designers. The games are called: MÜ, NJET, Was sticht?, and Meinz. Each of these games is a trick-taking game, but each also has a very special way of handling the trick-taking: one may choose his own hand cards, trump is chosen by the players together, or one can win a trick by merely calling it his! One box, four games, and endless fun awaits you! [Rio Grande]

In the Year of the Dragon from Rio Grande Games.
In this game, each player takes on the role of a Chinese prince, seeking to maximize the prosperity and prestige of his province in the ancient China of approximately 1,000 A.D. To assist in these endeavors, the princes must call upon the diverse talents of their courtiers, from scholars and monks to warriors and craftsmen. These loyal subjects will lend their expertise to the struggle to shield their rulers from the often disastrous consequences of the myriad of events that plague the populacefrom month to month. Be it drought, contagion or Mongol invasion, only foresight and planning will spare the princes and their subjects from these fates. The better a player can manage his province and withstand the seemingly unending onslaught of hazardous events, the more honor and victory points he will have to show for it in the end. [Rio Grande]

One last item: For those who are into D&D Minis, in the past month I have taken in over 1500 new minis and it seems as though we have sold that many, as well! If you have extra rare D&D Minis and would like to part with them, contact or come into the store for more information!

You can read all about our Special Events too.
